Drag test results

We mounted the Harbor Tide 2500 to our static test frame and measured 25 continuous line pulls at a target 6 lb drag setting. Peak variance stayed inside ±4%, preventing the micro-stuttering that breaks 6 lb fluorocarbon leaders on big runs.

On the water

We fished it for 120+ hours on Mille Lacs Lake targeting smallmouth bass on rock reefs and walleye on transition flats. Spooled with 10 lb braid and an 8 lb leader, it delivered effortless casting and silent winding.

Final verdict

The Harbor Tide 2500 is the new benchmark for reels under $160. Its drag consistency outclasses reels selling for $220+. Unless you require extreme saltwater surf sealing, it is an easy top recommendation.
