How to tie an improved clinch knot

The time-tested knot every angler learns first — best for monofilament and fluorocarbon under 20 lb.

Step 1 of 4
  1. Pass the line through the eye of the hook and double back, making 5 to 7 turns around the standing line.
  2. Pass the tag end through the small loop formed right above the eye.
  3. Bring the tag end back through the big loop created in the previous step.
  4. Moisten the line, pull gently on the tag and standing line to cinch, and trim the tag to 1/8 inch.
